In this course, we aim to provide an excellent introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy using clinical psychology principles and skills, for both graduates and undergraduates aiming to pursue this career path. We cover core elements of CBT, relevant to people starting out or with some basic knowledge of the approach, who are interested in considering how this is applied in practice.
We will start with a consideration of the fundamental principles of CBT, and how this model conceptualises change. We will then think about the application of the model to assessment, through facilitator demonstration, presentation and discussion. As the day proceeds, we will discuss CBT formulation, the ethos of the approach and some key intervention techniques. We will use clinical examples and case vignette material to ensure that these are practically understood, and that participants have chance to learn actively and genuinely build confidence. Rather than presenting model specific ideas or intervention plans, this day will be aimed as a general introduction, with facilitators happy to talk about their experience of this therapeutic approach in the ‘real world’, in a relaxed and informal environment.
The day runs from 10:00 until 16:30. In order to keep our price down we do not provide lunch or refreshments, but feel free to bring your own. There are also many options for buying lunch in the immediate vicinity. All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance to evidence their learning.
The facilitators will be Dr. Kate Friedmann (Clinical Psychologist & BABCP Accredited CBT Therapist and Supervisor) and Dr. Jo Black (Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Tutor on the Lancaster DClinPsy).
