Understanding and Supporting Children and Young People with Anxiety

This training day aims to increase understanding of anxiety in children young people, and introduce a range of methods for assessing, understanding and responding to anxiety difficulties. Attendees will be given practical strategies and resources to use with children that are evidence-based and have been shown to be effective.


In this training session we aim to help attendees improve their knowledge and skills around working with children and young people who are experiencing anxiety. Through attending the session, attendees will understand what anxiety is in young people, what influences it and some practical ways to help. We aim to help attendees learn effective evidence-based strategies for supporting children experiencing anxiety and we will share practical resources that attendees can use with children and young people that they support.

The training day will have a practical focus and ideas and resources shared in the session are designed to be relevant and applicable to a school setting.

The training will be led by Dr Richard Slinger (Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Tutor on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme at Lancaster University). Richard leads the Lancashire Emotional Health in Schools Service, which provides training on emotional well-being to primary and secondary schools across Lancashire.


This session is aimed at all primary and secondary school staff, especially SENCOs, pastoral leads, teaching assistants, or any other staff with an interest in or specific responsibilities for pupils’ emotional health in school.


This course is delivered in 1 day (running from 09:30 until 16:30) and costs just £135.
